Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does Medicare or Medicaid pay for these services?
Currently, Medicare does not pay for non-medical home care services. There is an exception to this when a patient is eligible for skilled nursing (Home Health Care), meet this criteria ongoing, and the attendant care services are provided in conjunction with and by the Medicare certified home health agency. In this instance coverage of attendant care services are limited.

Medicaid also may offer some coverage to eligible Medicaid recipients. Again, in this instance the agency providing services must be a certified Medicaid provider.

Visit our Resources page for more information and links to government agencies overseeing these benefits.

9. What is the benefit of hiring a caregiver from Assurance Companion Care?
Finding, screening, hiring, insuring, bonding, scheduling and managing a caregiver or a team of caregivers if you need regular or around the clock attendant care is a full-time job. Remember, your caregiver has a family and a separate life to go home to after their shift is completed.

If you're considering the need for a caregiver in your life to help out, then attempting to manage this full-time task will only undo the thing you are attempting to enjoy: independence, assistance and some peace of mind. Other things to consider when hiring employees are:

  • State and Federal payroll taxes
  • Workers Compensation Insurance
  • Professional insurance and bonding
  • Disability issues related to injuries on the job (caregiver)
  • Supervising services while receiving them at the same time
  • Managing employee or several employee's schedule, rearranging schedules and adjusting to employees' (caregivers) arriving late to work or quitting without notice

10. What happens when a caregiver is unable to show up for a scheduled shift or quits without notice?
